Volunteer Opportunities

1. ECOS e-mentors - Wish you could help a young person pursue their career goal but your work schedule makes regular meetings difficult? Through ECOS (Educational and Career Opportunity System), you can become an E-Mentor for the CIC.

2. Publicity and Publications Design - Help us get the message out that College Is Possible for everyone! We need your marketing ideas to expand our services and programs to even more students and families and your creative eye to add pizazz to our print and electronic publications.

3. Advisors, Writing coaches, Workshop Facilitators - Our advisors generally have experience in higher education, college counseling, career counseling, teaching or a related area. We need volunteer advisors at the main MLK site as well as our two satellite locations. Many students who visit the CIC need help with admission and scholarships essays. If you have strong writing skills, help staff our drop-in essay-writing sessions held at selected times during the year. Our workshops cover a broad range of college planning topics, including career exploration, study skills, and saving for college. Come share your knowledge!

4. Career Speakers - Like to talk about what you do? Career speakers participate in an annual Career/College Fair event at the D.C. Convention center and annual career day fairs at selected middle and high schools.

5. New! We're looking for parents who have survived the college application process with their children and would be willing to help parents of high school juniors and seniors through the rough spots. For all of those time, you said "if I'd only known . . . ." here is an opportunity to share your experiences with those who are still on the road to college. Become a "Peer Parent" and share your experiences.

6. Recognition for our Volunteers - Help us say "thanks" to the many folks who give their time to help more students and families pursue higher education. Some of our volunteer advisors have worked with us for four years on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Discount coupons, freebies, event or performance tickets, gift certificates or other items would be great ways to help us say "thank you."

7. Partnership Programs - If your organization or company is involved in a community service program with area students or families, we would be happy to talk with you about ways we can work together. Perhaps a 'college prep' session could be added to your existing program
