School-To-Careers

The Consortium of Universities/College Info Center has received two grants to provide services to support D.C. School-to-Careers. One grant supports School-to-Career activities for high school students by providing resources and training for STC Facilitators at 15 D.C. Public and Charter High Schools. The second grant supports outreach activities for students, parents and out-of-school youth. Services include:

  • Resources for STC facilitators to include a collection of college, financial aid and career print guides, site license for ECOS (Educational and Career Opportunity System), CIC hand-outs.
  • Purchase of ECOS (Education and Career Opportunity System) for each of the 15 schools and training for staff on using system.
  • Coordinator/counselor training sessions. Summer and Fall 2000 sessions focused on ECOS training and implementation. Spring sessions will focus on postsecondary information and local resources for career exploration.
  • Bi-monthly Newsletter to be distributed electronically via the CIC web site. Information will include calendar of local events, current issues, information on local programs, scholarships, resources, etc., reminders about upcoming deadlines and other items of interest.
  • Expand career resources at main CIC, including print materials and web resources.

STC also provided support for a satellite CIC site at the Benning Branch library to provide career and postsecondary information and resources to students and families outside the school setting.
